Today is eminent American poet Robert Frost’s (1874 – 1963) birthday
Here’s a delightful poem written by him on the rose family – “Rosaceae”. Surprisingly, many edible fruits (apples, pears, apricots, plums, cherries, peaches, strawberries etc. and even almonds!) belong to the same botanical family as roses!

The rose is a rose,
And was always a rose.
But now the theory goes
that the apple’s a rose,
and the pear is, and so’s
the plum, I suppose.
The dear only knows
what will next prove a rose.
You, of course, are a rose–
But were always a rose.
